Josh Agenbroad

Manager (Industry and Transportation)

Josh is a Manager with RMI’s transportation and industry practices. Building from an engineering background, he has been involved with several projects focused on automotive and industrial design as well as transportation energy strategy at the company, city, state, and national level. He is currently managing the transportation sector analysis for the Reinventing Fire: China initiative.

Background

Prior to working at RMI, Josh completed his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University. His concentration was on energy conversion and the related environmental issues, with coursework focusing on thermodynamics, combustion, renewable energy, systems modeling, aerosols, and climatology. Also part of this degree, Josh worked as a graduate research assistant at CSU’s Engines and Energy Conversion Lab on the advanced clean cookstoves project. The cookstoves team works to design biomass (mainly wood) burning cookstoves with improved efficiency and lowered emissions for use in the developing world. His thesis is concerned with a practical technique for modeling these stoves, for use as a design tool.

Josh received his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. Also in Albuquerque, he worked for Flintco Inc., a large commercial construction general contractor as a project engineer and in the estimating department.

Select RMI Projects

  • Reinventing Fire: China—managing transportation sector analysis including integration/coordination with three other sectors and four partner organizations. The project is focused on the techno-economic potential for energy efficiency and renewables in China by 2050 as well as barriers and policy options to achieve this vision.
  • Fort Collins 2030 Study—performed transportation sector analysis to create a vision for cost effectively achieving citywide carbon emissions reduction of 80% by 2030.
    Trucking Efficiency—reviewed client activities, strategy, and additional opportunities for rapid, cost-effective improvement to trucking fleet efficiency including logistics, behavior, and equipment.
  • Composite Auto Manufacturing Initiative—helped to develop and execute workshops focused on composites manufacturing for the U.S. automotive industry. Participants discussed collaboration opportunities among automakers, suppliers, researchers, and policy makers in order to address barriers and accelerate implementation.
  • Connecticut Comprehensive Energy Strategy—worked with state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to develop a long-term strategy focused on cross-sector energy cost, reliability, and environmental impact.
  • Renewable Energy Supply for Consumer Products Manufacturing—reviewed feasibility and strategy for achieving renewable energy supply targets, and evaluated technology and economics for supplying renewable process heat.
  • Upstream Oil & Gas Industrial Efficiency—worked with client to design and execute efficiency workshops and develop a repeatable process for use across the client’s portfolio and future projects.
