Biomass process flow for advanced cellulosic ethanol process

There are different types of biofuels as well as processes to create them. We assumed the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s 2002 nominal corn-stover cellulosic ethanol process as the basis for processing biofuels for the transportation sector. This entirely biomass-fueled process yields 49% ethanol and 28 MW electricity (56% exportable). Major savings of energy and capital found in 2007 from potential design improvements  (Reinventing Fire, p. 276, n. 390) were conservatively not adopted here.
