Buildings’ energy expenditures vs. other U.S. expenditures as percentage of 2008 GDP


The aggregate expenditure on building energy in the U.S. in 2008 was $448 billion. At 3.1% of total GDP, this figure is slightly more than the GDP of Massachusetts or the entire federal government’s expenditure on Medicare.
