Devi Glick is an Associate in the Electricity Practice of the Rocky Mountain Institute. Within Electricity, Devi is primarily involved with the Electricity Innovation Lab Initiative, and the Innovative Solar Business Models Project where she works to develop new pricing structures and business models to transition the U.S. electricity sector towards a highly distributed and renewable energy future. Devi joined RMI in August, 2012.
Devi comes to RMI from the University of Michigan, where she spent three years studying Public Policy and Environmental Science. While there she completed a year and a half long, multidisciplinary project developing a guide for Climate Change Adaptation planning in US cities. Outside of the classroom she was actively involved in the campus sustainability board, where she organized student action and coordinated communication with the campus administration with the goal of institutionalizing sustainability practices across the University. Prior to that, she worked in her hometown of Portland, Maine as a Staff Assistant for US Congressman Tom Allen. While at Middlebury College, Devi completed a political science thesis analyzing the relationship between Environmental Security and National Security in the post-cold war United States.
Electricity Innovation Lab (eLab)- As part of the Electricity Innovation Lab team, Devi works closely with electric utilities, solar developers, regulators, and other electricity sector players to better understand and effectively communicate the real benefits and costs of distributed energy resources as part of the electricity system. To answer this question, Devi and several colleagues have undertaken significant research and analysis on valuation and pricing of energy resources exchanged on the electricity system. The Benefits and Costs of Distributed PV was published by eLab last year and laid out the categories and services of value that can be provided by, and are required for, distributed PV. The most recent paper coming out later this summer picks up where the PV study left off in offering a framework and path for incorporating more accurate valuation into electricity pricing and rate design more broadly.
Innovative Solar Business Models (ISBM)– As a part RMI’s ISBM team (funded by the US DOE Sunshot program), Devi works with utilities to better align the interests of customers, regulators and utilities in the economic deployment of distributed solar PV (community scale and rooftop). Specifically she has conducted analysis to understand the economic impact that growing solar adoption will have on utility sales, and worked with co-op utilities to develop new pricing models for community solar installations.
