Randy Essex is Editorial Director, overseeing creation of written material for RMI's various external audiences, from supporters who read Solutions journal to general-interest audiences to professionals interested in deep detail.
He works across RMI teams to ensure that our content is clear, engaging and purposeful.
Background
Randy spent more than 30 years in daily newspapers, including in senior editing roles at the Pulitzer-winning Des Moines Register and Detroit Free Press. In Iowa, his responsibilities included overseeing Iowa caucus coverage. In Detroit, where he was deputy managing editor of business and civic affairs, he oversaw metro and political news, and led a nationally honored business news staff in covering the bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler. He created a Michigan Green Leaders community awards program that engaged business leaders, entrepreneurs, nonprofits and activists.
Education
Bachelor of Journalism, University of Nebraska; second major in political science.
