Report or White Paper, 2008
http://www.rmi.org/Knowledge-Center/Library/C08-11_DiggingDeepCFLsGreen
This paper addresses the debate over compact fluorescent lamps and incandescent light bulbs through lifecycle analysis. The research shows that the environmental impact of incandescents is more than that of CFLs.
Presentation, 2008
http://www.rmi.org/Knowledge-Center/Library/E08-06_SystemsThinkingDataCenters
This presentation shows how to apply a whole-system approach to the energy use in data centers in order to provide 95-99% energy savings. The authors present strategies for saving energy that have been applied effectively to data centers.
Report or White Paper, 2008
http://www.rmi.org/Knowledge-Center/Library/C08-12_LCAFluorescentIncandescentLamps
This paper compares the efficiency of compact flourescent lamps (CFLs) and incandescents using lifecycle analysis. The research shows that despite the added complexity in manufacturing CFLs and mercury emitted over a CFL's life, the CFLs are still a net "win" over an incandescent light.
Interview, 2008
http://www.rmi.org/Knowledge-Center/Library/E08-07_PolicyEnergyChange
In this interview, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Amory Lovins discuss energy policy. Topics discussed include walkable cities, how to drill for efficiency, and what governments can do to accelerate clean energy. The importance and opportunity of legislation on a local level are emphasized. Domestic drilling, funding sources for clean energy, putting a price on carbon and motivating change are other topics discussed. Amory concludes by describing the security issues related to our electric grid, and the necessary steps to build a more reliable and localized energy infrastructure.
