RMI's Energy & Resources Team (ERT) works with leading companies around the country to rethink their processes and strategies in three primary areas:
- Electric utility planning and strategy for energy efficiency, distributed generation, and renewable energy.
- Industrial process efficiency.
- Corporate and government energy and climate strategy.
Examples of recent ERT projects include:
- City of Palo Alto ERT worked with CPAU, a publicly-owned utility in California, to conduct a state-of-the-art Energy Resource Investment Strategy (ERIS) targeting energy efficiency, distributed generation, and advanced demand response strategies.
- Rio Tinto ERT is working with Rio Tinto, a global mining company, to design radically more efficient ore and metal mines around the world.
- Next Generation Utility RMI is undertaking a 3-year effort to see how advanced technologies like distributed resources, dramatic efficiency gains, and advanced digital communications could produce a new type of utility that meets our requirements for energy services in a radically more efficient, reliable, and sustainable way.
Responsibilities:
ERT interns work on between 1 and 3 projects simultaneously, ranging from fast-paced consulting work to longer-term research, and covering topics in all of our core project areas. Interns work under the guidance of a project manager and other senior staff to conduct project work focused on quantitative analysis, data manipulation, writing, and research.
Qualifications:
Graduate level studies concentrating in one of the following:
- Engineering: mechanical, energy, electrical, civil.
- Economics.
- Mathematics/statistics.
- Finance/business.
Environmental policy and law background welcome as long as the candidate also has an extremely strong analytical/quantitative background. Strong writing and oral communications skills, analytical abilities, experience in team-based work, and demonstrated commitment to issues of sustainability and resource efficiency.
Compensation: The Intern will receive a monthly stipend and housing assistance.
Location: Boulder, Colorado.
Duration: 36 months, start date flexible.
