On-Demand Water Heater
In a cupboard (above the nickel-iron batteries) in the workshop is an Aquastar™ propane-fired on-demand heater that operates only when someone turns on a faucet. Instead of always keeping a tank of water hot, this on-demand heater heats only the amount of water needed, when it's needed, to the exact temperature that's needed, as the water flows through the appliance. Only a small amount of energy, about 1 percent of the total, is needed because the water is pre-heated by the sun, so the demand heater is seldom needed.
