RMI is seeking candidates for an internship of six-to-twelve months, which will focus on sustainable college campuses, especially campus climate initiatives.
Research Project:
Identify challenges faced by campus environmental and climate-mitigation programs; and practical solutions to those problems, including ways to finance the projects required to achieve cities' green objectives.
Responsibilities:
The intern will:
- Develop an understanding of RMI's approach to Natural Capitalism and system thinking, and RMI's several practice areas
- Work with RMI staff, including senior staff and project managers
- Complete the internship with a working understanding of campus sustainability
- Research the wide range of sustainability activities currently being pursued on college campuses, inter-relationships among them, ways to finance them, and local and national organizations that are supporting these activities.
- Travel with senior staff to several campuses
- Assist in the development of solution to the problems faced by college campuses in their efforts to improve environmental performance, mitigate climate-change, and utilize the principles of natural capitalism.
- Internship may also include work regarding city sustainability.
Qualifications:
Studies concentrating on the following: urban and campus sustainability; environmental, climate, and energy issues; whole-system thinking; and green economics, business, and public management. Additionally, direct experience with campus sustainability issues would be a plus. Also very important: Strong writing skills, analytical abilities, experience in team-based work, and demonstrated commitment to issues of sustainability are necessary prerequisites.

Compensation:
The Intern will receive a monthly stipend and housing assistance.
